Dear Fielding community,

The WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) has approved the affiliation between Fielding and Rowan Education Partners. Rowan Education Partners is an initiative of Rowan University, a well-respected university in New Jersey.

WSCUC’s responsibilities include establishing WSCUC Standards for institutional quality and processes for review, acting on accreditation status of individual institutions, and setting the strategic goals of WSCUC as a higher education organization committed to excellence, equity, and the public good.

This affiliation, while important for our future, means that Fielding remains an independent, nonprofit educational institution with our own financial and academic autonomy. Fielding is the first institution in the Rowan Education Partners network of independent but like-minded institutions that share services to create savings that are reinvested in academic programming to achieve greater global impact. This will provide benefits and opportunities for Fielding.

While there will be no changes in Fielding students’ programs, Fielding will use the affiliation to improve student support services, such as wellness programs, academic technology, and writing support services. Additionally, Fielding faculty will not experience any changes in their programs or employment status. Under the affiliation, we intend to offer more faculty development resources and support for academic technology.

Two weeks ago, I informed the board of the WSCUC decision. The Board is happy with this development, yet we are aware this is the beginning of a long road to build a deep partnership with Rowan and, eventually, strong relationships with other affiliates.

In addition, I will host another university town hall in the new year to discuss program implications and take any questions. Please keep alert to information from University Communications about upcoming events.

Wishing you all a good day and rest of the week.

With kind regards,

 Katrina S. Rogers, Ph.D.
