Iris Nafshi, Denise Dziwak and Annabelle Nelson presented at the TQR 15th Annual Conference February 29-March 1, 2024 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Just recently, I had the privilege of presenting my doctoral research at the TQR Conference at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The experience was nothing short of transformative, marking my first official foray into the academic community as a doctoral student. The theme of the conference, exploring spaces of inclusion and exclusion in qualitative research, provided a rich backdrop for discussions on how we can create more inclusive research environments that amplify diverse voices.Throughout the conference, I was enveloped in an atmosphere of learning and inspiration. The workshops and sessions, especially those focusing on qualitative research methods and embodied analysis, were eye-opening. They challenged my perspectives and enriched my understanding of qualitative inquiry, emphasizing the power of stories and the importance of positioning and reflexivity in research. But beyond the intellectual growth, this journey was made truly special by the support of my “dream team.” I’m profoundly grateful to Annabelle Nelson, my mentor, guide, and fairy godmother, who has been an unwavering source of inspiration. Her belief in the power of the stories of the women I serve through my research has been a constant encouragement. Alongside Annabelle, Iris Nafshiy has been a strong, caring, and no-BS companion. Together, we’ve become a force of nature, sharing powerful loves and wisdom in the pursuit of making meaningful contributions through our work.My research presentation, focusing on the collective stories of women and their evolution through shared experiences, was an opportunity to bring to light the unique paths and transformative journeys that bind us together. The feedback and discussions that followed were immensely enriching, offering new perspectives and insights that I’m eager to explore further. The conference was not just about sharing my work but also about gaining new tools, ideas, and connections that will undoubtedly shape my research journey ahead. The insights on embodied analysis, the importance of ethical guidelines in qualitative research, and the creative methodologies discussed have all added new dimensions to my approach towards research. As I reflect on this experience, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to learn, share, and grow within such a vibrant and supportive community. This conference has not only been a significant academic milestone but also a personal journey of discovery and affirmation of my passion for qualitative research. To my mentor Annabelle, companion Iris, and all the incredible individuals I’ve had the pleasure of learning from and with at the TQR Conference, thank you. This is just the beginning, and I am excited about the path ahead, filled with more research, learning, and opportunities to contribute to our collective understanding and empowerment.Stay tuned for more updates on my research journey!
