Fielding alum and Artistic Director of Live Garra Theatre, Dr. Wanda Whiteside, announces a special event this weekend at the venue. In recognition of Black History Month, Live Garra Theatre presents “Soul II Soul: What Makes a Poet Breathe?” — staged readings written by poets and aspiring playwrights about what it means to be distinguished as an Ascending Citizen. As part of the Playwrights’ Conservatory: The Voice of the Human Living Experience, ascending citizens tell their stories. Artists put pen to paper to create a community-based arts related experience, the organic development of the life stories of fellow poets supporting each other. And Still I Rise…

About Live Garra Theatre

[description from livegarratheare.org] Race is a compelling subject; the dearth of African-American Theatre in Montgomery County, Maryland and the Washington, DC metropolitan area is real; the demand and need is great. The Live Garra Theatre offers enormous opportunities; endeavoring to illuminate all facets of a multicultural society; fostering cross-cultural understanding of the many ethnic voices in the community and to address universal social-life issues.

Live Garra Theatre, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 professional theatre organization; an incubator studio established for emerging artists; a core repertory of skilled performers coming together to teach and share a blend of the Cultural Arts. The Live Garra Theatre Company features full-length productions, play readings, acting seminars, internships, workshops, lectures, and question & answer discussions.

Live Garra Theatre is dedicated to increasing awareness, preserving the unique legacy of the African-American heritage; contributing to the survival of Black Theatre. Why Black Lives Matter…
