Continuing Coach Education

An ethical dilemma is a situation where there are multiple options for a response, each of which carries some cost. Ā When we encounter an ethical dilemma, we may find ourselves with three questions: Ā What is the right thing to do? Ā What is the ethical thing to do? Ā What is the moral thing to do? Ā How we answer the first question depends on how we think about the second and third. Ā In todayā€™s webinar, we invite you to explore your thinking about what is ethical and what is moral to help you figure out how you respond to the ā€œwhat is the right thing to do? Ā In this interactive webinar, we will explore how coaches cultivate ethical maturity, three frameworks for ethical judgment, and a range of ethical archetypes that influence our ethical decision-making.

Participants are strongly encouraged to take the MoralDNA assessment (for free) in advance of the session, as we will explore how oneā€™s moral stance affects choices in addressing situations involving ethics.

Objectives

In this session, we will begin to:

  • Introduce the concept of ethical maturity as a life-long development process
  • Identify ethical dilemmas
  • Broaden participant awareness of influences on ethical decision-making
  • Practice application of concepts and orientations

Francine Campone, Ed.D., MCC

Dr. Campone coaches leaders in diverse sectors and develops professional coaches through supervision and mentoring. Ā Her recent publications include chapters on ethics in the promotion of coaching services and in coach education. Francine is presently Editor (Americas) for the International Coaching Psychology Review. Ā She was lead editor for Coaching supervision: Voices from the Americas and co-edited Innovations in Leadership Coaching Research and Practice. Ā Francine is currently coordinating a collaborative study on ethical dilemmas in coaching and coach supervision.

Francine was Director of Evidence-Based Coaching at Fielding Graduate University and a founding faculty member of the University of Texas at Dallas coach education program. She co-chaired the ICF Coaching Research Symposia, 2003-2006 and co-edited the proceedings. Past publications include a case study on the coaching/psychotherapy boundary; the impact of life events on coaches and their coaching; the impact of graduate education on coaches and their coaching; and book chapters on adult learning theories in coaching, reflective learning for coaches, and coaching in the adult workplace .
