Iris Nafshi, Denise Dziwak and Annabelle Nelson presented at the TQR 15th Annual Conference February 29-March 1, 2024 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Their presentation was entitled, “Discovering Capacity and Transforming Identities:  Narrative Research”.  The work was based on Denise and Iris’ research from the Advanced Research Method Narrative Inquiry course (HOD 838NI).   Iris interviewed Iron Moms, mothers who compete in the Iron Man and found themes of inspiring children and others, love and joy in the process, and putting yourself first.  Denise interviewed women in the Latin American corporate world who scored high on the Secure Flourishing Index and found themes such as relational bonds as enablers and growth from unavoidable challenges. These Human Organizational Development (HOD) doctoral students’ research was greeted with enthusiasm and stood out as excellent examples of narrative research.

“As an HOD faculty who specializes in research, I was thrilled to have two of my students from the HOD Advanced Research Methods 883 Narrative Inquiry class present at The Qualitative Report.  Each had done powerful research capturing women’s narrative about how they merged different facets of their identities into authenticity,  becoming who they wanted to be beyond societal strictures and meeting the world with empowerment.  Iris Nafshi and Denise’s research was solid and resonated with their participants’ voice, a requisite for narrative research.  I judged that their research was in the top10% of excellence at the conference.” — Annabelle Nelson, PhD
