MA Couples/Marriage and Family Therapy

Develop skills for facilitating relationships

Fielding’s Master of Arts in Couples/Marriage and Family Therapy is specifically designed to prepare clinicians for licensure in the core mental health profession of couples/marriage and family therapy (CMFT).

Our degree offers four distinct concentrations:

  • Working with Persons of African American/Black Heritages
  • Working with Persons of Latinx Heritages
  • Working with Persons of LGBTQQIA+ Identities and Communities
  • Medical Family Therapy with Couples, Families and Children

The curriculum is designed to meet accreditation standards set by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE).

Fielding allows you to study on a schedule that fits with your personal and professional life. Our two-year program combines in-person meetings and asynchronous coursework, two annual residencies, and four approved practica near you.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the concepts of systems theories as foundational to the practice of marriage and family therapy.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and competency in the systemic and clinical diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of a wide range of presenting issues across the lifespan.

  • Integrate knowledge, personal experiences, and research to inform clinical practice.

  • Develop awareness and understanding of power, privilege, diversity, social responsibility and social justice, especially with diverse, multicultural, and underserved communities.

  • Establish a professional identity as an ethical practitioner of couples and family therapy.
