Community colleges play a significant role in the U.S. educational system: they offer flexible access to educational opportunities to students of diverse backgrounds. Join School of Leadership Studies Dean Dr. Barbara Mink and her distinguished guests. The panel of experts in the field will discuss how community colleges nationwide have the potential to advance social justice and economic equity in the U.S.
Panel host: Dean Barbara Mink, Ed.D., has served as a publicly elected Austin Community College District trustee. Since 1978, Dr. Mink has been a professor at Fielding. She teaches and supervises doctoral students in organizational change, management and leadership, and learning and motivation.
PANELISTS
Pamela Luster, Ed.D.
President, San Diego Mesa College
Dr. Luster received her doctorate in education from Fielding in 2010. She has been in the community college system for 40 years. Dr. Luster serves on several nonprofit boards and describes herself as a “warrior for community college education, an advocate for those with quiet voices, and a creative and positive force in the lives of those who engage me.”
Ed Leach, Ph.D.
Executive Director, NISOD
Dr. Leach serves as the Executive Director for NISOD, a community and technical college membership organization. Prior to his tenure at NISOD, Dr. Leach served as the VP of Services and Programs for the League for Innovation in the Community College (League).
Nora de Hoyos Comstock, Ph.D.
Founder & President, Las Comrades Para Las Americas
Dr. Comstock is the national and international founder of Las Comadres Para Las Americas, an organization that engages Latinas in dialogues about education, employment, culture, and resources, among other things.
Bruce Leslie, Ph.D.
Chancellor Emeritus of The Alamo Colleges District
Dr. Leslie is a Navy veteran and Chancellor Emeritus of The Alamo Colleges District. Dr. Leslie has served community colleges of all sizes. As a result of his leadership, the Alamo Colleges District has received the 2018 National Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award for Performance Excellence, the only higher education multi-college system ever to receive this Presidential level award.
Barbara Mink, Ed.D.
Dean, School of Leadership Studies
