Reflective practice/supervision can be a very powerful resource in communication in organizations in education, mental health, and beyond. Reflection is a dual process of self-reflection and reflecting upon others. Reflective practice is the way in which a relationship-based approach can be implemented with integrity, morality, and ethics. In a true reflective practice individuals focus on listening skills, seeing the world through the eyes of the client, being able to empathize with that viewpoint and to respond in a non-critical, accepting manner. Reflective practice/ supervision is a tool that facilitates problem-solving in any social or organizational setting. In many other graduate programs, problem-solving is addressed by focusing on behaviors, rather than the underlying causes. Reflective practice/supervision addresses this issue, offering instead a developmentally-based, cutting-edge approach to conflict resolution.
Introduction to Reflective Practice/Supervision
In this class, we will define the process of reflection and relate reflection to mindfulness practice. As we understand the process, we will discuss the application to creating learning experiences in different settings.
This course will combine theory and practice, alternating between discussion sessions, relating to reflective practice, and then practice sessions in which students will work in pairs or groups to practice reflection and to have ongoing supervision of their work.
Advanced Reflective Practice/Supervision
In this practicum/intervention course, students will bring in case work from their own professional experiences and their own disciplines.
