Incoming students participate in a 3-part orientation during their first year in the program. The first part is called the New Student Orientation—Online (NSO-Online). Participants engage in interactive online activities, designed to help them obtain an overview of program requirements, Fielding library resources, cluster activities, critical thinking skills, and expected professional conduct. Participants must successfully complete the NSO-Online in order to attend the NSO-Santa Barbara (NSO-SB), a six day face-to-face orientation held in Santa Barbara, California. Participants will need to bring a laptop to the NSO-SB. Follow this link for information about computer requirements. During the NSO-SB, participants will work with faculty and advanced students, primarily in a small group format to familiarize themselves with Fielding's learning model and to develop an initial, personalized sequenced plan of studies. This blueprint organizes the individual’s graduate studies in relation to the program's requirements and the individual's academic background, prior professional training, and special interests. Incoming students must successfully complete the NSO-SB to become fully matriculated. They continue learning about the program during their first year (NSO-first year). Students’ progress is monitored at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. |
