Program Overview
The program in Media Psychology and Social Change allows for great flexibility and attention to individual goals. Open to those with a bachelor's degree or higher, the Fielding/UCLA Extension partnership program provides a sequence of courses from UCLA Extension that culminates in a Certificate (Award of Completion) from UCLA Extension that may be applied directly to a master's degree in Media Psychology and Social Change from Fielding Graduate University. In addition, special provisions are available to those who may later wish to pursue a doctorate at Fielding Graduate University. Offered entirely online, the program includes carefully planned activities to allow each student to maintain his or her professional career while in the program. About Media Psychology Media psychology is multidisciplinary, drawing from developmental, sensory, and cognitive psychology; systems theory; and positive psychology, motivation, and learning theories. It encompasses an analysis of the psychological impact of evolving media content and presentation and risks of the information society as we use (and misuse) traditional media--radio, television, and film--and new media--social networks, blogs, virtual immersive worlds, identity sites, and mobile communications. Students will study the specific benefits of understanding human behavior when working with media applications, how media affects individuals and cultures, and how media can be used for socially constructive purposes. |
