New Student Orientation (NSO) in Santa Barbara, CA is the only residency requirement for students in the Respecialization in Clinical Psychology post-doctoral certificate program. However, it is very important that you are familiar with your state’s licensing requirements. Many states require residency, and some states require the completion of specific coursework while “in residency.”
Although not required, the program offers additional face-to-face events throughout the year, and you are encouraged to attend. These events strengthen your ties to the Fielding community by keeping you connected to your peers, your faculty mentors, your program, and your university. You have a chance for professional socialization and as well as more concentrated time for course work, training, and scholarship.
Most students attend at least one session per year, and cluster meetings whenever possible because they find the collaboration, support, and face-to-face interaction with the faculty helps them move through the program more rapidly.
Licensure
You are responsible for verifying the requirements for licensure in your state of residence and maintaining awareness of changes throughout the program. We do not have the resources to be experts at every state’s licensure requirements.
To learn more about licensure requirements, we suggest that you contact your State Board of Examiners for Psychology and/or consult the web site of the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards and/or the National Registry of Psychology.
Length of Study
Depending upon the amount of time you are prepared to devote to the program, you could complete the necessary coursework, practicum, PALS and the Pre-Internship Evaluation in 24 months. Internships are normally full-time for 12 months, with half-time, two-year opportunities available in some settings. Therefore, it is prudent to allow at least 36 months for the completion of this program.
