UCLA Extension 8-Week Long Online Courses
You might choose to begin with these 3 pathway courses online in UCLA Extension’s Entertainment Studies program:
- FILMTV X 482.1 Introduction to Media Psychology & Social Change
- FILMTV X 482.2 Global Media and Social Change
- FILMTV X 482.4 Narrative and Digital Storytelling
If you choose this option, during your courses at UCLA Extension, you would apply for
admission separately to the master's program at Fielding. You could continue to take the courses offered through UCLA Extension while being enrolled at Fielding, or wait until you have completed all the Extension courses that you wish to take through UCLA, before beginning at Fielding. Any of the UCLA Extension courses above that you take must be completed with a grade of "B" or better in order the courses to articulate into the Fielding master’s program.
New Student Orientation: Online
Your program at Fielding starts with an online orientation that occurs two weeks prior to your first academic trimester. The orientation helps you familiarize yourself with Fielding, and learn to use our online systems to navigate, post, and complete assignments. Your assignments consist of tutorials, practical exercises, and dialogue with other students and faculty facilitators. You can expect to spend 10 to 45 minutes per day responding to brief assignments, students and faculty online posts during the orientation.
Fielding 12-week Online Courses
Your Fielding master’s courses take place entirely online. You control your own schedule and have access to the online learning tools at any time — day or night. Faculty facilitators lead the online courses and guide you through the curriculum individually and in collaborative, virtual teams with your colleagues.
Capstone Project
In your final capstone project, you create a digital portfolio of written papers and multimedia presentations. You may choose to include a written thesis, a website, a photographic essay, video or film, or a combination of these elements. Your portfolio is reviewed by your primary faculty advisor at the conclusion of your coursework and can serve as a tool for further research or professional practice.
