The talents and expertise of psychologists are increasingly in demand for forensic psychology evaluations and trial consultation. With the specialization you receive with the Forensic Psychology concentration, you will be able to be involved in the evaluation of:
- Risk and violence potential
- Competency to stand trial
- Mental status at the time of offense
- Child custody
- Police psychology
- Effects of the media on violence and trial outcomes
- Psychological factors in interrogation and eye-witness identification
In addition to the required courses within the degree curriculum, the Forensic Psychology concentration curriculum for Media Ph.D. students consists of the following requirements:
- Forensically oriented dissertation, with at least one committee member who is a member of the forensic concentration faculty
- PSY 765 and PSY 769
- 12 additional credits with a forensic emphasis, numbered PSY 720 or above
