The School of Psychology is dedicated to providing competence-based graduate and post-doctoral education in psychology for students who prefer a distributed learning delivery model.

Goal #1

Scholar-Practitioner: To produce graduates who are committed to professional excellence that is grounded in theory and research, and informed by experiential knowledge, skills, and ethical conduct.

Objective 1.1: Graduates will demonstrate the ability to engage in a disciplined process of analysis, synthesis, conceptualization, and evaluation of information across academic, research, and clinical activities.

Objective 1.2: Graduates will demonstrate competence in understanding and adhering to the ethical, legal, regulatory, and professional quality assurance guidelines and standards of the field as they apply to academic, research, and clinical activities.

Objective 1.3: Graduates will demonstrate competence in understanding issues of cultural and individual diversity across academic, research, and clinical activities.

Goal #2

Knowledge Foundations: To produce graduates who demonstrate mastery of the existing body of literature constituting the core content areas of psychology.

Objective 2.1: Graduates will demonstrate a broad foundation of knowledge and understanding of the scientific, theoretical, and methodological issues that support the evolving discipline of psychology and the processes underlying human behavior.

Objective 2.2: Graduates will demonstrate critical understanding of the current issues and emerging trends within the defining areas of psychology.

Goal #3

Scholarly Inquiry: To produce graduates who are competent in the formulation of scientific and clinical questions, and in the collection and critical evaluation of quantitative and/or qualitative data.

Objective 3.1: Graduates will demonstrate competence in the identification and application of appropriate research methodologies.

Objective 3.2: Graduates will demonstrate competence in designing, conducting, and clearly communicating an independent, theoretically driven research project that makes an original contribution to the field of psychology.

Goal #4

Professional Practice: To produce graduates who have developed the required entry-level knowledge and skills for the practice of clinical psychology.

Objective 4.1: Graduates will demonstrate competence in applying theory to psychological case conceptualization.

Objective 4.2: Graduates will demonstrate competence in applying evidence-based psychological assessment and diagnosis to their clinical work.

Objective 4.3: Graduates will demonstrate competence in applying evidence-based psychosocial intervention to their clinical work.

Objective 4.4: Graduates will demonstrate effective interdisciplinary collaboration.
