 PhD Clinical Psychology

The need for clinical psychologists is expected to grow 15% by 2016, faster than most other professions. Clinical psychologists fulfill important needs for psychological services in clinics, hospitals, prisons, schools, industry and the military.  Each day, clinical psychologists promote growth and change toward healthy and productive living.

APA Accreditation

Fielding’s School of Psychology offers the only accredited clinical psychology doctoral program utilizing distributed delivery for many of the learning and assessment requirements. The program is accredited (on probation) by the American Psychological Association (APA)--APA Commission on Accreditation, 750 First St. NE, Washington, DC 20002, 202.336.5979. The clinical psychology program received initial accreditation by the APA in 1991.

Generalist or Specialist Options

Faculty and alumni are active scholars and practitioners, many of whom are nationally recognized and published in their professional areas of specialization. Although the program follows a generalist training model, faculty members have a variety of clinical specializations, making it possible to offer optional areas of concentration.

The Fielding Experience

As a Fielding student, you become a member of a challenging, dynamic and diverse community of faculty, students, and alumni colleagues. Designed for adult learners, the distance education advantage of blended and distributed learning makes it possible to pursue advanced study and professional goals while balancing the demands of work, family, and community obligations. You join a cluster of highly qualified, adult students led by the faculty advisor in your geographic area. You also engage with other faculty, students, and alumni from across the country at session events and via e-mail, telephone, and the Internet. The community brings a rich diversity of prior learning and professional experience in psychology and related fields.

Geographic Eligibility

Due to individual state licensure requirements, applications are accepted only from individuals who reside in the contiguous United States (except Oregon, Oklahoma, & Kansas), and Canada. Thus the program is not offered in Hawaii, Alaska, or internationally (except to Canadian students).
