The Neuropsychology post-doctoral certificate curriculum consists of the following requirements:

  • Courses NEPSY 821, 822, 823, 824
  • 5 credits NEPSY 892 Clinical Case Supervision (200 clock hours)
  • 25 credits NEPSY 893 Clinical Experience (1,000 clock hours)
  • NEPSY 836  Final Professional Evaluation

You will complete 62 semester credits of coursework in order to graduate. 

Required Courses

NEPSY-821 Theoretical Foundations of Neuropsychology, 8 semester credits
Covers introductory topics such as neuroanatomy, neurochemistry, and history of neuropsychology. Main topics include functional cortical and sub cortical organization, brain mechanisms of language, perception, memory, attention and executive functions, major neuropsychological syndromes, hemispheric specialization, cognitive development and cognitive aging.
NEPSY-822 Clinical Foundations of Neuropsychology, 8 semester credits
Provides an overview of the clinical applications of neuropsychology, the roles of clinical history, and testing. Reviews relevant neuropsychological tests of perceptual integration, language, motor functions, executive functions, attention and memory. Various specific neuropsychological instruments are discussed, as well as the general strategies of diagnostic inference.
NEPSY-823 Neuroscience of Major Brain Disorders, 8 semester credits
The mechanisms of major disorders are discussed. The topics include various types of dementias, cerebrovascular disorders, traumatic brain injury, neuropsychiatric disorders including schizophrenia and affective disorders, traumatic brain injury, neurodevelopmental disorders including dyslexias and ADHD, movement disorders, seizures, neoplasms, and infectious encephalopathies.
NEPSY-824 Neuropsychological Assessment and Treatment of Major Brain Disorders, 8 semester credits
The clinical issues pertinent to the major neuropsychological disorders listed in above are discussed. Also covers principles of psychopharmacology, issues of cognitive habilitation and rehabilitation, and forensic neuropsychology.
NEPSY-836 Final Professional Evaluation, Credit/No Credit, 0 semester credits
The Final Professional Evaluation assesses skills in intervention and assessment at the postdoctoral level. The evaluation takes place after completion of all course work and of the majority of the clinical practicum experience. It is reviewed by two faculty examiners.
NEPSY-892 Clinical Case Supervision, 5 semester credits
Students are required to obtain two hundred (minimum) hours of clinical case supervision. Group case supervision is obtained through the cluster faculty for an additional fee (not included in tuition), and is provided during normal cluster weekends. A nominal amount of outside supervision is possible through special arrangement.
NEPSY-893 Clinical Experience, 25 semester credits
One thousand hours of self-guided clinical experience involving neuropsychological testing and report writing with a minimum of fifty cases is completed and recorded by the end of the program. This experience is typically found on-the-job.
