PhD Media Psychology and Social Change

The media landscape in our world is ever evolving.  There is a growing need for professionals with the expert understanding of how media is impacting human behavior, how to use and create media, as well as how to advise others on its creation in order to affect positive social changes in our world.

In our online program in Media Psychology and Social Change, you can maintain your professional career while earning a master’s degree in this innovative field.  Your study within this program allows for great flexibility and attention to your individual goals, and continuously integrates and builds upon your previous learning and experience.

We offer the program in cooperation with the University of California, Los Angeles Extension's Entertainment Studies program.  You take 4 introductory courses through UCLA Extension, then complete the master’s program at Fielding with an additional seven courses and a capstone project.

Join a vibrant online community of scholar-practitioners engaged in a theoretical and practical understanding of:

  • the psychological impact of evolving media content
  • the use (and misuse) traditional media--radio, television, and film--and new media--social networks, blogs, virtual immersive worlds, identity sites, and mobile communications
  • human behavior when working with media applications
  • how media affects individuals and cultures
  • how media can be used for socially constructive purposes

Your professional colleagues, faculty, and alumni apply their knowledge of media psychology while working in many fields, such as:

  • Independent consultants
  • Media/marketing and entertainment professionals
  • Corporate and nonprofit professionals
  • Public policy and advocacy administrators
  • Human service and health care professionals

Alumni of the MA in Media Psychology and Social Change are eligible for articulated credit in Fielding’s doctoral degree programs in Educational Leadership and Change, Human and Organization Development, Clinical Psychology and Media Psychology.
