Information Society and Knowledge Organizations (ISAKO) focuses on the ways in which media, information, and knowledge are transforming our societies, cultures, organizations, and our own selves.
The ISAKO concentration supports your collaborative learning with students and faculty interested in the integration of knowledge from a variety of fields and disciplines including the:
- Transformative power of today’s media
- Living in an online world
- Virtual teams and online learning
- Interface of information, knowledge, and organizations
- Social justice and ethical issues within these areas
In addition to the degree curriculum, the ISAKO concentration curriculum consists of the following requirements:
- HOD 711 Information Systems
- In an HOD Knowledge Area of your choice: Participate in a research and practice project in organizational or social environments that are impacted by issues of information and knowledge technologies.
- Produce in-depth papers related to ISAKO topics in at least 3 additional knowledge areas of your choice.
- Complete at least 2 of the 4 elective Knowledge Areas with ISAKO faculty members.
- Deliver a presentation on an ISAKO topic at a professional and/or academic conference.
- Participate in at least one collaborative on-line ISAKO seminar.
- Complete a dissertation that is relevant to the study of, and/or practice within,the information society, knowledge organizations, social informatics, and/or virtual environments. One ISAKO faculty member must be on the student’s dissertation committee.
