The Evidence Based Coaching (EBC) graduate certificate program includes two orientation conference calls, three 12-week online courses, two face-to-face skills training sessions, and 20 telephone training sessions. Successful completion of the EBC program requires completion of all online, telephone training, face-to-face skills training and mentoring components, as well as a final oral exam.
Orientation
Your orientation to the program takes place as two 90-minute conference calls. During these calls you receive an orientation to Fielding's online resources; an introduction to Evidence Based Coaching and the importance of developing a coaching practice grounded in theory; and an introduction to the concepts of adult learning and reflective practice.
Courses
You take 3 online courses, each lasting 12-weeks. All coursework is collaborative in nature, involving interaction and dialogue among learners on the assignment topics. In fact, the deep dialogue that results online with your fellow students is one of the most important aspects to the program. Faculty members respond to your work throughout the course, bringing their extensive professional and academic backgrounds and understanding into the discussion of your particular topics.
Skills Training Workshops
You also attend two face-to-face skills training workshops, which take place in Santa Barbara, CA. During this training, you bring real-life situations about which you would like to be coached. Under the supervision of professional, trained coaches, you take turns coaching, being coached, and observing coaching conversations. This combination of training is very effective in the development of your self-awareness, self-reflection, and self-correction skills - essential to your success as a coach in any setting.
Telephone Training
You participate in telephone training calls throughout the year. For certification, you must be present and participate in 20 telephone training sessions. You will select a time and day from several options for telephone training each week.
Coaching Supervision
The program provides learners with 10 hours of coaching supervision through individual and small group supervision sessions. Supervision begins in the second term of the program and offers learners the opportunity to gain insight into their coaching practices and engage in reflective learning form experience.
