8 Core Courses with Guided Practice
Each of the four semesters, you meet with the other members of your learning community to study two integrated courses and engage in a guided practice of the concepts learned in your courses. Between the face-to-face meetings, you engage in online dialogue and independent and small group study.
Professional Development Plan
You create a professional development plan which acts as your personal road map guiding you through the MA-CEL program. Your plan is informed by your personal and professional goals, standards that reflect state teaching standards, and the five propositions of the National Board of Professional Teaching.
Portfolio
Throughout the program, you build a portfolio that is an ongoing demonstration of your personal, professional, and community growth throughout the 4 semester program. Your reflections are an important component of your portfolio along with artifacts from your classroom, school, or workplace.
Capstone Action Research Project
Using your experiences in the coursework and guided practice, you develop a project that you are passionate about and that will positively impact your local K-12 education. You design, implement, and evaluate your project with support from your learning community and facilitators.
Journal Article
After completion of your capstone project, you will share your learning with your professional colleagues through a journal article. As a graduate, you are encouraged to submit your journal article in a publication that will reach your target audience.
