For Immediate Release August 13, 2006, Santa Barbara, CA Dr. Garry Hare is joining the faculty of Fielding Graduate Universitys Media Psychology program, it was announced today by Dr. Bernard J. Luskin, founder and executive director of the first Ph.D. program in Media Psychology in the world.
Dr. Hare brings an extensive background in media and psychology. Early in his career he was one of the first to create an interactive entertainment and simulation company providing interactive programs for many growing companiesWarner Communications and LucasGames among them. Later, at Philips Media Europe he was Managing Director and developed production studios in seven countries and distribution in eleven. He has negotiated corporate acquisitions and negotiated digital rights with The International Olympic Committee, FIFA, Porsche, Pininfarina, and the Hulton Library.
An accomplished media entrepreneur, he founded startups, including Fathom Pictures and Oz Communications, preceding his position as founding president and CEO of Amiga, Inc. In 2005, he founded Peer English Networks, Inc. (PEN) which creates a web-based, multi-user English Literacy Program enabling English language learning over any digital device, on-demand.
As Fielding is first among graduate universities to create a media psychology program with a very specialized and prestigious faculty in media, we are thrilled that a pioneer like Dr. Hare has accepted this position, said Dr. Judith Kuipers, Fieldings President. Garry adds measurably to the existing quality of our faculty and brings a wealth of hands-on experience to our students, said Dr. Ronald Giannetti, Dean of The School of Psychology.
Dr. Hare earned his doctorate at USC during a period when he was also Director of Executive Development Programs at USCs Center for Training and Development which was founded by Dr. Neily Gardner. After earning his doctorate and studying under Dr. Gardner, Dr. Warren Bennis and Dr. Carl Rogers, Dr. Hare served USC for ten years as visiting professor.
At the University of Washington he founded The Applied Behavioral Science Center. He was among those, with Dr. Fritz Steele at Harvard, to explore the impact of built environments on human and organization behavior and developed a suite of intervention strategies around the topic. Dr. Hare has taught in the areas of Organization Psychology, Process and Small Group Dynamics, Behavior and Personality, Instrumentation and Intervention Strategies, and Conflict Resolution. Dr. Hare resides in Northern California. His affiliations include the American Film Institute, Environmental Forum of Marin (Chair, Environmental Media Committee),Writers Guild of America, United States Sports Academy, World Affairs Council, Surfrider Foundation and the California Film Institute.
