Leadership for Health Care Change Through Public Dialogue
On Friday, April 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. PDT Royal Roads University’s Centre for Health Leadership and Research in Victoria, British Columbia, in collaboration with the Institute for Social Innovation at Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California, will hold a public dialogue on health systems change in Canada and the United States.

The public dialogue is part of a two-day workshop on Leadership for Health Care Change through Public Dialogue being held at Royal Roads University in Victoria. Support for this workshop from the B.C. Ministry of Health is gratefully acknowledged.

The public dialogue will be moderated by CBC journalist Jo-Ann Roberts and will focus on comparing and understanding the Canadian and US health systems, changes occurring in each, and the role of public dialogue. Panel participants include:

• Elizabeth Cull, RRU associate faculty and former B.C. health minister
• Marie Farrell, Fielding Professor in Human and Organization Development
• Keith Melville, Fielding Professor in Human and Organization Development
• Geoff Rowlands, Member of the Advisory Board to the Centre for Health Leadership & Research, RRU and CEO of the Health Care Leaders Association of B.C.

The session will be broadcast live via Internet stream in real time starting at 9:00 a.m. PDT through an online webinar platform and will be recorded for possible later broadcast on CBC Radio One.

The Canadian and US health systems are in a state of change, leading to some convergence. This workshop is seeking to promote a deeper understanding of the two systems, and the challenges they face, to see what mutual learning can take place for the benefit of both. It will also look at key levers for transformation in the form of public engagement and leadership.
