Santa Barbara, CA, (March 26, 2008) - Raymond J. Trybus, PhD, has assumed the position of dean of the School of Psychology at Fielding Graduate University it was announced by President Judith L. Kuipers, PhD. In announcing the appointment, Dr. Kuipers stated "we are honored that an individual with his distinguished career in academia as faculty, researcher, and in senior executive positions, has joined our university leadership team. Dr. Trybus' experience and successes will serve us well as we strive for greater advances in adult and distributed higher education."

Dr. Trybus earned his PhD in psychology from St. Louis University in St. Louis, MO. Among his academic appointments during the past decade are chancellor, California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego; dean of graduate studies, then provost and vice president for academic affairs at National University; and vice president and director of research at San Diego University for Integrative Studies.

Dr. Trybus is a licensed psychologist committed to improving the quality of psychological services. Much of his career has focused on issues of human diversity and underserved populations. He has done extensive work in providing psychological services, research, and educational opportunities for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing.

In accepting the position, Dr. Trybus stated "I have known of and admired Fielding Graduate University for many years. Our faculty and the graduate education learning model Fielding developed for mid-career professionals are held in high regard by our peers in affiliated academic fields." Dr. Trybus looks forward to contributing to the university's further growth and development.

As dean of the School of Psychology, Dr. Trybus will give leadership to its three degree-granting programs:

• PhD in clinical psychology - the only distributed learning model program that is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA)
• PhD in media psychology - the first and only doctoral-level program of its kind in the world
• MA in media psychology and social change - a new program offered in affiliation with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)

The school also offers postgraduate certificate programs in neuropsychology and a respecialization in clinical psychology.

The school has 35 full-time faculty and 450 students located throughout the United States, and six academic faculty/administrators based in Santa Barbara, CA. The school is renowned for its high academic and research standards as well as for its flexible, student-centered, and collegial learning atmosphere.
