With generous support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Fielding Graduate University is partnering with the Society of STEM Women of Color, Inc (SSWOC) to offer professional development opportunities–with continuing education credits–in academic leadership at the 7th Annual STEM Women of Color Conclave. The Conclave will be held September 29 – October 2, 2017 at the Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, Maryland.
Once again, the 2017 SSWOC Conclave will include a special and ALL NEW, 10-hour professional development Leadership Academy that will run in parallel with the Conclave. The Conclave Leadership Academy (CLA) will once again be partially funded by the National Science Foundation and participants will earn a Continuing Education Certificate in STEM Academic Leadership from Fielding Graduate University. The CLA 2017 agenda will be completely different from the 2016 version, thereby making it attractive for BOTH first-time participants and participants in last year’s event!
CLA 2017 will build upon the general SSWOC Conclave Theme “The Ties that Bind.” It will consist of presentations, group discussions, case studies and other activities to reflect upon the ties that bind STEM women of color in leadership across diverse ethnicities, races, disciplines, institutions and spiritualties. Speakers and panelists will represent a diversity of experiences and leadership perspectives – many with national reputations in leadership. It will be delivered by nationally prominent individuals with documented knowledge and experience in the art, science and delivery of effective leadership in higher education in STEM academic units and in colleges and universities generally throughout the United States.
Applications for the 2017 Fielding/Conclave Leadership Academy are currently being received until August 16, 2017. Up to 50 individuals will receive scholarships to cover the Continuing Education Fee of $200. The Leadership Academy is also offered to general Conclave attendees at the same cost. Fielding Graduate University, upon the recommendation of the Marie Fielder Center, will award ten (10) Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to each individual who participates in the entire 10 hour program and completes an assessment at the beginning and end of the program.
