Asked Questions For Neuropsychology Certificate Program |
Q. What is the commitment?
[back to list of questions]
A. Cluster groups meet in major cities
in the United States one weekend a month for 10 months of the year, for
two years. Didactic instruction and group case supervision occur over
these weekends. Independent study occurs between the meetings. We estimate
10 hours a week for study. Although this is a large time commitment, most
students are able to complete the program within the two-year time frame.
Q. What does it cost? [back
to list of questions]
A. Please see
the Tuition page in our Policy section for 2006-2007 school year tuition
information. (Tuition averages an increase of 4-5% each year.) Supervision
is the other major cost, and averages $5,000 - $8,000 over the course
of the two years. Other expenses include materials (several hundred dollars)
and travel expenses.
Q. My employer offers
tuition reimbursement. Would I be eligible through your program? [back
to list of questions]
A. Generally, the answer is "yes" if your employer will
accept work in a certificate program. The Neuropsychology Program offers
credit coursework, which is transcripted. The program is a total of 62
units. There is a procedure in place to help students obtain proof of
coursework completion in order to obtain tuition reimbursement.
Q. How will I meet the clinical requirement?
[back to list of questions]
A. To complete the certificate program,
you need sufficient exposure to neuropsychological evaluations. The clinical
experience requirement is 1,000 hours, with no more than 20 hours spent
on any one case, or 25 cases a year. Most students are able to complete
the clinical component through their jobs.
Q. How will the Neuropsychology Certificate benefit
my career? [back
to list of questions]
A. The education you receive in the program
can enhance your professional skills, broaden the battery of tests you
are able to administer and interpret, and expand the range of clients
you are able to treat. Taking the program can also help you prepare for
the ABPN board exam.
Q. I am a school psychologist.
What is the benefit of your program over one designed specifically for
school psychologists? [back to

A. Fielding's Neuropsychology Certificate Program is a comprehensive
program, covering pediatrics through geriatrics. We feel it is important
to have an understanding of Neuropsychology over the age spectrum, regardless
of which population you primarily treat.
Q. Am I qualified to enter the program?
[back to list of questions]
A. The program primarily caters to licensed clinical or counseling
psychologists (doctorate degree) and certified school psychologists (PhD
or EdD). Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis. See
our admissions page for more details.
Q. Where will the classes be held?
[back to list of questions]
A. Cluster groups will be located near students in major metropolitan
areas. See our locations page for more
details..
Q. Can I use these
credits to present to employers for salary increases?
[back to list of questions]

and many recognize the benefit of being certified in this area. Students
must negotiate the value of the training and experience with their employer.
Q. Will I be adrift because there is no campus?
[back to list of questions]
A. No. You will have a group
leader for your cluster group that will guide you through the program.
Every month you will meet with your cluster leader and answers are always
available by telephone and email.
