of neuropsychology. Main topics include functional cortical and subcortical
organization, brain mechanisms of language, perception, memory, attention
and executive functions, major neuropsychological syndromes, hemispheric
specialization, cognitive development and cognitive aging.
Clinical Foundations of Neuropsychology
[NEPSY 822, 8 units]
Provides an overview of the clinical applications of neuropsychology,
the roles of clinical history, and testing. Reviews relevant neuropsychological
tests of perceptual integration, language, motor functions, executive
functions, attention and memory. Various specific neuropsychological instruments
are discussed, as well as the general strategies of diagnostic inference.
The Neuroscience of Major Brain Disorders
[NEPSY 823, 8 units]
The mechanisms of major disorders are discussed. The topics include various
types of dementias, cerebrovascular disorders, traumatic brain injury,
neuropsychiatric disorders including schizophrenia and affective disorders,
neurodevelopmental disorders including dyslexias and ADHD, movement disorders,
seizures, neoplasms, and infectious encephalopathies.
The Neuropsychological Assessment and Treatment of
Major Brain Disorders [NEPSY 824, 8 units]
The clinical issues pertinent to the major neuropsychological disorders
listed in above are discussed. Also covers principles of psychopharmacology,
issues of cognitive habilitation and rehabilitation, and forensic neuropsychology.
Clinical Case Supervision
[NEPSY 892, 5 units]
Students are required to obtain 200 hours of clinical case supervision.
Group case supervision is obtained through the cluster faculty for an
additional fee (not included in tuition), and is provided during normal
cluster weekends. A nominal amount of outside supervision is possible
through special arrangement.
Clinical Experience [NEPSY
893, 25 units]
One thousand hours of self-guided clinical experience involving neuropsychological
testing and report writing with a minimum fifty cases is completed and
recorded by the end of the program. This experience is typically found
on-the-job.
Final Professional Evaluation [NEPSY
836, CR (credit)]
The Final Professional Evaluation assesses skills in intervention and
assessment at the postdoctoral level. The evaluation takes place after
completion of all course work and the majority of the clinical experience.
It is reviewed by two examiners.
