Kerul Kassel further funds the scholarship she helped launch

A sustainability champion at Fielding and beyond, alum and adjunct faculty Kerul Kassel, PhD, established a scholarship in 2016 to support the new Leadership for Social & Ecological Sustainability doctoral concentration.

Created to inspire future scholar-practitioners in the field of sustainability, the Leadership for Social & Ecological Sustainability Scholarship is an annual award for continuing students whose research is focused in the area of sustainability and in support of their scholarly progress at Fielding.

Kerul Kassel, PhD

A self-described “leadership coach, author, graduate school educator, community activist, and avowed tree hugger,” Dr. Kassel recently made another generous gift in support of more scholarships for Fielding students in the Social & Ecological Sustainability doctoral concentration. Thanks to scholarships like this, our students are able to continue their education and conduct cutting-edge research in the areas of social and ecological sustainability. Every dollar Fielding receives for the scholarship is invested in the innovative research of our students.

Since it was launched in 2016, nine scholarships have been awarded. Many of the recipients are also involved in the Sustainability Working Group at Fielding as volunteers, bringing subject-focused events to every national session and beyond. For example, two student-members of the working group, Shelli Hendricks and Lisa Buckley, have organized the 2018 Summer Session event “Radical Change-Makers: Constructing a Network for Sustainable Civilization” to initiate dialogue across the Fielding network, including all schools and concentrations, about building sustainable and flourishing communities. The July 18 event takes place from 4 to 6 pm at the Westin O’Hare in Rosemont, Ill., and will feature guest speakers from DePaul University, Elevated Chicago, FARM Illinois and the Calumet Stormwater Collective.

If you wish to contribute to this fund and inspire more research for the well-being of our planet, you can send donations to Fielding Graduate University, c/o Office of Development. In the check memo, write “Sustainability Scholarship.” You can also make gifts by credit card on the Fielding website; select the gift designation “Sustainability Scholarship Fund.”
