Academic Employment Opportunity

The School of Human and Organization Development (HOD) invites applications for two associate dean positions in its multidisciplinary PhD degree program for mid-career professionals in a distributed learning environment.

We seek a scholar-practitioner with a track record of successful administrative and graduate education experience. In addition to administrative duties, associate deans have doctoral faculty member responsibilities and are expected to continue scholarship and participation in professional associations. The positions are based in Santa Barbara, California and require regular travel to regional Fielding events. Applicants whose work incorporates a global perspective and a demonstrated commitment to issues of diversity and social justice are encouraged to apply.

Associate Dean for Student Development
Major administrative responsibilities include management and coordination of doctoral recruitment, admissions, financial aid, student academic progress, and retention; coordination of new student orientation and doctoral competency seminar; monitoring doctoral committees, comprehensive examinations, and graduation requirements; coordinating School of HOD marketing; working with doctoral program governance teams and faculty; coordinating with university offices on marketing and recruitment, retention, academic progress, financial aid, and related issues.

Associate Dean for Curriculum and Program Delivery
Major responsibilities include review and development of doctoral curriculum, concentrations, study guides, and articulation agreements; coordination of program delivery including national and research sessions, clusters, regional workshops and on line seminars; evaluation of student learning and program delivery; working with doctoral program governance teams and faculty, as well as administrative offices for program delivery, accreditation reviews, institutional research and related issues.

Review of applications continues from 2007 with desired start date of September 2008 through July 2009. We will continue to review applications until the positions are filled.

Qualifications: A doctoral degree in the social sciences; evidence of scholarly productivity including funded research or professional practice projects; excellent communication skills in face-to-face small and large group settings as well as on line environments; appropriate graduate education administrative experience; demonstrated facility with quantitative and qualitative modes of inquiry; experience supervising doctoral dissertations; competence in collaborative adult learning with students from diverse backgrounds.
