Associate Dean for Masters and Continuing Education Programs School of Educational Leadership & Change
Fielding Graduate University seeks an accomplished, innovative and inspirational person to assist in leading our growing School of Educational Leadership & Change (ELC) in keeping with the Mission, Vision and Values of the University and the School. ELC is committed to an interdisciplinary action-oriented research approach that fosters transformational leadership and quality systemic change.

Through self directed, networked and technology enhanced learning environments, we build the capacity for reinventing learning in our schools, in post secondary educational settings, in organizations, and in other diverse learning communities. ELC enables those engaged in teaching and learning to work in their respective communities while simultaneously developing theoretical frameworks and effective leadership skills designed to respond to and confront complex realities and challenges of today and tomorrow.

The School currently enrolls 300 doctoral, 120 masters and 60 continuing education students. We have embarked upon a phase of growth in both number and kind of academic programs, including: continued expansion of the current Ed.D and MA programs, the addition of several specialized masters and certificate programs and continuing professional education for teachers and administrators.

The Associate Dean (AD) for Masters and Continuing Education works as part of the ELC Leadership team to implement the vision of the School. This position provides leadership for the MA in Collaborative Educational Leadership (operating in California, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Georgia) as well as all Continuing Education Programs including the California Preliminary Administrative Services Credential (PASC) and Teaching in the Virtual Classroom certificate. The AD will also be expected to lead current programs and initiate new masters and continuing education programs.

Reporting directly to the Dean, the AD will work out of Santa Barbara, California with colleagues in the administrative offices and a dedicated faculty dispersed throughout the U.S. The position requires some travel. While relocation to Santa Barbara will not be required, the AD will be expected to be in the Santa Barbara offices a minimum of 10 days per month.

The desired start date for this position is the selected candidate's earliest availability, preferably the Fall of 2008.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in K-12 education, preferably at both the teaching and administrative levels.
  • Understanding of and practice in learning communities, collaboration and constructivist educational models.
  • Familiarity with national and international issues within the field of education.
  • Professional experience in higher education administration, including demonstrated expertise in academic and organizational leadership related to program leadership and new program development:
    • Professional experience in curriculum development, program delivery, and assessment of learning;
    • Experience in forming institutional partnerships.
    • A record of scholarly work, preferably including expertise in action research.
  • Doctoral degree in a field related to educational leadership and change.
  • Professional experience integrating anti racist education into culturally responsive teaching and learning, and analyzing issues confronting schools and communities today.
  • Demonstrated skill in working with adult learners and other traditionally under served populations in urban and rural settings.
  • An appreciation for leadership as a collaborative activity throughout the organization.
  • Expertise in use of computer and information systems and commitment to the use of technology in supporting learning.
