Natalie
Ammarell, PhD has been awarded an Alum Fellowship in Creative Longevity
and Wisdom at the Fielding Graduate University. Natalie obtained her PhD
from the Fielding Graduate University in 1999; her research focused on
non-profit Board-Executive Relations in the context of Organization Transformation.
Dr. Ammarell has worked for many years with leaders of non-profit
and government organizations - encouraging their development as leaders
in the challenging environment of human service delivery.
She is currently a full-time research associate at Duke University School
of Nursing. She is a member of a federally funded research team that is
conducting a 5-year qualitative study of nursing management practices
and relationship/communication patterns among all levels of staff in nursing
homes. "Those who live and work in nursing homes have much wisdom
to share about their lives, choices and final stage experiences."
As an Alum Fellow Dr. Ammarell will seek to integrate and
communicate the insights gained through her experiences as nursing home
researcher and as caregiver for members of her own family. She hopes to
find effective ways to convey stories and messages to staff in nursing
homes; family members who are on caregiving journeys; policy-makers; and
those who are entering a later stage of life and are trying to make decisions
about their alternative futures. She will also work on a family history
book project.
