Curriculum for the Master's Degree in Organization Management and Development (OMD) with a Concentration in Integral Studies

Program entrance requirement OMD600
During this two week period, students complete an online module, OMD600, which is an asynchronous orientation and training forum that is facilitated by program faculty and fielding staff. See OMD600 description for details.

First term
Students participate in An Introduction to Integral Theory and one course chosen from the master's degree foundational courses.

Introduction to Integral Theory This 12-week course begins with a virtual orientation to the certificate program and the learning environment. It provides a basic introduction to the core concepts of Integral Theory, their interrelationships, and their potential applications across a range of specific disciplines (e.g., business, criminology, ecology). Students have opportunities to practice applying Integral Theory to aspects of their own personal and professional lives. Each of the five elements of the Integral Model (Quadrants, Levels, Lines, States, and Types) will be explored in detail.

Second term
Master's degree students are expected to attend a face-to-face meeting at the beginning of their second term. This meeting is devoted to community-building as well as conceptualizing research issues and topics that might be of interest for the master's capstone project.

In the online portion of the term, students participate in a course chosen from the foundational courses of the master's degree as well as Advanced Integral Studies.

Advanced Integral Theory This 12-week online course provides an in-depth exploration of the core concepts of Integral Theory and their interrelationships. It also introduces more subtle aspects of the theory and provides opportunities for more sophisticated and in depth applications. Students expand and refine their capacity to make use of a new and unique lens for interpreting and integrating material and information from a wide range of traditional disciplines/areas of study. Students also have opportunities to practice applying Integral Theory to aspects of their own disciplines/professions. A particular emphasis will be placed on Integral Methodological Pluralism and the relationship between epistemology, ontology and methodology.

Third term
Students in the third term participate in the final two foundational courses required of the OMD program.

Fourth term
Master's students participate in an elective chosen from the courses offered by the Organization Management and Development program as well as the research course designed for the concentration.

Integral Research: (OMD690IS) This course is designed to expose students to the foundations of Integral Research - a mixed methods approach combining qualitative and quantitative traditions. Students will explore the history and concept of research design and then will identify a topic to research through six distinct methods using 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person approaches. Students explore the tradition of Action Inquiry and how it supports Integral Research. Students begin developing a project exploring their topic from multiple methodological perspectives including: phenomenology, structuralism, hermeneutics, ethnomethodological, empirical, and systems analysis.

Fifth term
Students in the final term of the master's program choose an elective from the OMD program and complete the master's project (OMD691IS), focusing on the application of Integral Theory. For details on the master's project, fees and financial aid see information on the master's degree.
