Rapid change in social and business environments has led
to the explosive growth of coaching as a profession. In response to increased
demand that coaches not only be skilled, but also demonstrate knowledge
of the theory and research behind their work, Fielding Graduate University
has designed a graduate level certificate program in Evidence Based Coaching
(EBC). Students may choose from three options:
- 12-month certificate program - includes three online
courses taught by academically qualified coaching practitioners. This
certificate meets the accreditation requirements of the International
Coach Federation and awards academic credit which may later be transferred
into the Master's Program in Organization Management and Development.
- 20-month Master's Program in Organization Management
and Development in conjunction with the certificate in Evidence Based
Coaching. The three courses in the coaching program articulate directly
to the master's program, and satisfy three of the four electives in
the master's curriculum.
- Doctoral program credit. For participants of the year-long
EBC certificate, the 12 credits earned will count as 12 elective Knowledge
Area credits in Fielding's PhD program in Human & Organization Development.
A similar arrangement with the doctoral program in Educational Leadership
& Change is under review.
Applications for admission will be reviewed on
a first-come, first-served basis. Contact Nathan Lewin via email at nlewin@fielding.edu
or by phone at 800.340.1099 ext. 4015 for more information.

What
is Evidence Based Coaching? [back
to top]
Evidence Based Coaching brings theory and research from a variety of disciplines,
including psychology, communication, and organizational studies, together
with current techniques and strategies in coaching. Combining Evidence
Based Coaching with distance delivery adds a whole new dimension to this
program. Because Fielding is a premier provider of collaborative online
education, this certificate combines knowledge of theory, research and
practice in coaching with the latest techniques in distance and online
coaching delivery. Participants learn how to develop an online presence,
deliver feedback, and facilitate coaching discussions online.
This certificate combines three important skill and knowledge
sets to create a new, results-oriented approach that will help you develop
a new type of practice in professional and organizational coaching.
- Current coaching techniques
- Online and distance coaching facilitation
- Research and theory in coaching
Who Should Take
This Program? [back to
top]
The graduate level EBC certificate program is designed for coaches, counselors,
managers, Human Resource and training professionals and consultants who
are interested in enhancing their coaching skills. It is also available
to qualified individuals interested in becoming coaches. The program offers
rigorous education in both the theory and practice of coaching in a wide
variety of settings. Those who complete this program will have mastered
the best techniques for face-to-face and distance coaching and will have
a deep theoretical understanding of how and why coaching works.
Why Fielding?
Fielding is an established leader in networked education. Fielding is
also one of the first to provide a thorough background in coaching theory
and research, along with intensive development in the skills of distance
coaching-via phone conferencing and online discussion. The graduate level
Evidence Based Coaching certificate program is one of the first in North
America to offer academic credit towards a graduate degree together with
Accredited Coach Training Program (ACTP) certification from the International
Coach Federation (ICF).

at Fielding or another accredited university.

Coaching Federation.
I entered the Evidence Based Coaching program at Fielding in January of 2007. I have been extremely impressed by the thoroughness of the curriculum, the quality and caliber of faculty, and my fellow students. I have been admitted into the doctoral program in Human and Organizational Systems and am looking forward to strengthening my ties with the university, faculty and alumni. This is an incredible learning community.
I have been coaching within a
corporate environment for a number of years and on the outside for a few
years as well. This has really helped my level of expertise and confidence
in moving more into a private practice.
I have found this program to be
both provocative and useful. Since the program began, I have become aware
of a greater number of lenses through which I view my clients. I am also
much more self-aware and observant as a coach.
The impact of this program on
me as a coach can be summarized in my intention to leave my current full
time employment in December of this year to practice life and executive
coaching full time. Through this program I have developed the capacity
to self reflect and self correct while gaining new knowledge and skills
in coaching. I also have a greater awareness of the role of research in
coaching.
