Each year ISI awards dissertation scholarships. Students are eligible from the doctoral programs in Fielding's schools of Educational Leadership and Change (ELC), Human and Organization Development (HOD), and Psychology (PSY).
The Bushnell Scholarship is the first endowed fund at Fielding. Students must pursue dissertation research in the areas of organizational and social change. This annual award is presented at Fielding's national session in Santa Barbara.. The next deadline is October 15, 2007. Jim's study on leadership transitions analyzes the changes that leaders experience as they move from the business sector to the non-profit world. In the next ten years nearly half of the nation's non-profit executive directors will be of retirement age, leaving a void of leadership for this sector. Recent studies suggest that as baby boomers age,
they express a wish to become more involved in social issues and making
a difference in their communities. As individuals adjust their professional
careers to be more aligned with their personal values, this shift has
implications for society. Jim's work examines the significance of these
changes, most notably the potential effects of bringing a more business
orientation to non-profit leadership and management.
