Highlander
Center Research and Education Center [back
to top]
The Highlander Center was founded in 1932 by educator and community organizer
Miles Horton to serve as an adult education center for community workers
involved in social and economic justice movements. Each year Fielding
students and faculty attend a week-long training session in rural Tennessee
on action research and civil action.
The program includes workshops on participatory action
research and social change, discussions with Highlander staff, and field
trips to community learning/change centers. Participants share and work
on their own professional practice and research projects.
