Fielding works with you in the effort to obtain educational loans to meet your financial needs.
- Federal Loans
- Alternative or Private Educational Loans
- Alaska Resident Loans
- Canadian Student Loans
Fielding participates in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Student Loan Program set up by Congress to provide money to students through federally regulated loans. The federal loans available to Fielding students are:
Direct Stafford Unsubsidized Loan
The Stafford Unsubsidized loan is widely accessible to students of all income levels, and your credit rating is not used to determine your eligibility for this loan. The Stafford loan has annual and lifetime limits to the amount you can borrow.
Direct Graduate PLUS Loan
The Graduate PLUS loan is meant to fill in the gap between your Federal Direct Stafford Unsubsidized loan and your total Cost of Education at Fielding. The annual limit of the Grad PLUS loan is the estimated cost of education budget set by the Financial Aid Office minus any other financial support (such as employer reimbursement, scholarships, etc.) that you receive.
The Grad PLUS program, unlike the Stafford loan, requires a credit check for an adverse credit history, and the interest rate and origination fee is higher for a Grad PLUS loan than a Stafford loan.
Alternative or Private Educational Loans
If you are ineligible for a federal student loan, or you wish to obtain financing outside of the federal programs, you may finance your education with a private educational loan, also known as an Alternative Loan. Alternative loans are offered by financial institutions or peer to peer lenders and are based on your credit rating. Your annual limit for an alternative loan is your total Cost of Education at Fielding minus any other financial support (such as employer reimbursement, scholarships, etc.) you receive.
We strongly encourage you to take full advantage of the federal programs first, review the Student Loan Guide from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), and explore your lender options carefully before selecting an alternative loan.
Loans for Alaska Residents
Alaska residents are eligible for a special Alaska educational assistance program which combines the United States federal loans with your Alaska state loans into a financial package for you.
Loans for Residents of Canada
Canadian student loans are managed by your province or territory of residence. Citizens of Canada may be eligible for Canadian student loans while attending Fielding.
