General Information
- What kind of resources and student services are available to me at session?Resources and student services available include a computer lab, office supplies, copy machines, library, lost and found, advisors, and staff at the registration desk. The hotel also has a business center.
- Are meals included in the cost of the session?
Meals are not included in the cost of the session. Daily coffee breaks are provided throughout the morning and afternoon including water, coffee, soda, and snacks. - How much money should I budget for food?
Meal prices vary throughout the different restaurants and café’s in the hotel, however it is recommended that you budget for at least $7-$10 for lunch and $10-$15 for dinner, depending on your dining preference. - What is the dress code at session?
There is no dress code for session. Most students and faculty choose to dress anywhere from very casual to business casual. - Is there parking at session? Will it be validated? Is it discounted?
Parking at session varies with each hotel; please refer to Hotel/Travel page for detailed information. - Are there advanced readings for the seminars I am taking?
We no longer use the XanEdu service for advanced readings. When applicable, advanced readings for your seminar will use articles from the Fielding Library as well as books and/or book chapters that faculty may want you to read in preparation for the seminar. Check the catalogue for required readings or faculty may contact you directly. You will be given the reference in the library database or the name of the book to buy. If it is in the library database, you will need to search for it and download it for reading. Here is a link to the Fielding Library FAQs to (http://www.fielding.edu/library/FAQs.asp) assist in finding any reading materials. - How can I schedule a meeting with my Associate Dean or a faculty member?
For PSY: If you would like to schedule an individual meeting with your associate dean or a faculty member, you can sign up at session for half-hour individual meetings. Associate Dean and faculty schedules will be available on a bulletin board by the registration desk beginning at 1pm on Sunday and will be up until Monday at 3pm. If you miss signing up during this time, you must contact your AD or the faculty member directly to set up an appointment.
For HOD and ELC, please contact the faculty member directly to set up an appointment.
- When and how can I find out when my committee meeting final oral review is scheduled?
Please refer to Committee Meetings on the session website for the specific dates when all scheduled times will be posted and sent to all students. - How can I get Audio Visual Equipment for my Final Oral Review or Student Led Event?
Fielding does not rent camcorders, laptops, or video projectors (aka LCD) due to the high rental costs. Please see AV for information regarding deadlines and equipment that is available for rental.
Registration/Fees
- Am I required to attend all days of the session? If I only want to attend one seminar, do I need to pay the whole session fee?
You may attend the session for as many or few days as you would like, however, the fee for the session is a flat rate of $295 regardless of the number of seminars attended. See Fee Policies - If I only want to attend the session for a committee meeting, do I need to pay the whole session fee?
No, the cost for attending session for just a committee meeting is $125. - What do I do if I want to change my schedule and take a different seminar than I originally registered for?
All students receive an add/drop form in their folder when they arrive at session. If you wish to change your schedule you must fill out this form, and have it signed by the appropriate faculty members. Put it in the “Back to Santa Barbara” box at the Fielding Registration desk. - Can I register after the deadline?
Yes, you may register after the deadline for the session but not for individual seminars. However, you must go through an appeals process and pay a late registration fee of $100. See Fee Policies. - Can my spouse attend? What is the cost for my spouse?
Yes, any guest may register for the session and attend most seminars as well as all open events. These include community meetings, final oral reviews, guest speaker presentations and alumni events. This will allow your guest to partake in daily coffee breaks, the opening reception and graduation celebration. Please note: Guests can register for the session, but students are the first priority. Once guests have registered and paid, they can attend the session and check with faculty onsite to register for individual seminars. The cost for a guest is $295.
Computer/Internet/Office
- Is there free wireless internet at the hotel?
Internet and wireless access varies at each hotel; please refer to the
Hotel/Travel page of the session website for detailed information. - Will there be a computer lab?
Yes, there is a computer lab at all national sessions with laptops, printers, and kiosks where one can hook up their own laptop if he/she wishes to print something. None of the computers in the lab are a Mac. There is no lab at research and other regional sessions. - Is there a printer/copier I can use?
Yes, there are two printers available for small print jobs located in the computer lab. There are also two copiers available in the Fielding Office for student and faculty use while at national session. There are no printers and copiers at research and other regional sessions, you may use the hotel business center.
Graduation
- Do I need to pay for session if I am graduating?
No, if you are attending session only to walk in the graduation ceremony and/or have your final oral review, you do not need to pay the session registration fee. - Can I attend workshops if I am walking in the graduation ceremony?
If you are walking in the graduation ceremony and would also like to attend workshops, you must register and pay the session registration fee before the registration deadline. - Where can I purchase my regalia?
You can rent regalia through Fielding by indicating the size that you need on the graduation questionnaire. If you would like to purchase regalia, please refer to the
Graduation Regalia section of this website for information regarding suppliers and Fielding colors. - If I rent regalia through Fielding do I get to keep my hood after graduation?
No, the cost of the regalia covers the price of the rental and you may keep the tassel only. - Can I invite additional guests to the graduation reception? How much does this cost?
Yes, you can invite additional guests to the graduation reception at any time. Tickets can be ordered when registering for graduation and also at the Fielding registration desk while at session. Please see the Session Fees page for prices.
