Silent Auction
By now, every ELC student should know about the Silent Auction and the importance of this activity. We are asking everyone in the ELC community to donate items that can be auctioned during National Session. The goal is to raise funds for student travel scholarships specifically for National Session. Last year we are able to award $3,500 in scholarships! How does the Silent Auction work, you ask? Well, the ELC community—students, faculty, alumni, and staff donate items for ‘silent’ auctioning. Each item has a bid sheet next to it so that people can place their bid. Hopefully, every item will have multiple bidders, each trying to outbid the other. This is how we increase the scholarship fund! It is a good idea to check back several times during National Session to see how your bid stands. On the evening the auction closes, we get many last minute bidders trying to outdo each other! It is all in good fun, and the outcome is for a worthy cause. If you need to leave prior to the close of the Silent Auction, a process will be in place to include your final bid, and if you are the highest bidder, the item will be shipped to you. So, remember to bring something for the Silent Auction. If you forgot to bring something, don’t panic—cash donations are welcomed and envelopes for your contributions can be found at the Silent Auction table. (Imagine, if all students, faculty, staff, alumni donated $5 we could get an extra $600 in addition to the money we raise from the auction itself!) All items will be displayed during the week of National Session from 9–6 p.m. The Silent Auction will conclude on Friday, July 18 at 6 p.m. So join in the fun, contribute to a great cause, and pick up some great items brought by your colleagues! See you at the Silent Auction!
