This program is based on the Learning Quest, Inc., Learning
Community Framework. Several higher education institutions have been using
this framework for five or more years. The following comments provide
a look at how some of the participants have felt about this experience.
- "I have never worked so hard and learned so much,"
said one graduate," while finding a new focus and energy for my
teaching."
- A high school teacher states, "I've learned that
learning, accountability, and life are all the same things...and that
all of this is meant to be exciting and fun."
- "Yes, my students' test scores have gone up, but
more importantly they are better learners who apply what they know to
real life issues and needs," another teacher reported.
- "I've begun to enter an arena of deeper understanding
that the unknown is stronger (viable) than the known. It is the unknown
that often brings the community of individuals together with a goal
of team building."
- "The diversity of the group interwoven with the
diversity of open, enjoyable, shared experiences created links / connections
/ bonds within our own learning community."
- "An awareness regarding my comfort level and finding
'my voice' came from my reflection on what environmental factors affected
me when dialoguing in a learning community. A realization that dialoguing
became easier when I felt safe, when my thoughts and words were heard,
and assumptions or judgments were not made."
- "The technique of having individual group members
discussing difficult concepts led to more learning "aha's!"
than when sitting in a classroom with an "expert" teacher
telling us the facts and then having us regurgitate them back in some
traditional assessment. My teaching has been enhanced by the gifts of
those learning community facilitators, and I thank them."
