On learning of the appointment to Associate Vice President for Student Affairs at Savannah State University, Irvin Clark, EdD 2003, remarked, My EdD from ELC is really paying off!
“Don’t you know who I am? I’m Nattie. I’m a Fielding student.” Learn more about me in this video clip.
Nattie Freeda Kinloch
ELC Student
The curriculum is cutting edge and the staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and caring. There is no question that my advancement to Superintendent of District Operations for Milpitas Unified School District is directly linked to hard work, perseverance, and my EdD degree.
Karl Black, EdD
Gilroy, California
Superintendent, Milpitas Unified School District

Fielding encouraged me to use traditional and cultural values in my research. For my dissertation, my argument was for a relevant curriculum that encourages hands-on learning activities in the Navajo Nation.
Joseph Chee, EdD
Shiprock, New Mexico
Special Education Teacher

Fielding has played a central role in supporting my commitment to social justice. I was able to work with Fielding students and faculty from all over the world. The process of intellectual cross-pollenization was rich and rewarding.
Malcolm Bonner, EdD
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Director, McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program
University of Pennsylvania

In a just society, our values must not be slogans but the foundation for everything we believe in. For my dissertation, I am using action research to bring about change at both the school and college level.
Awilda Orta
Manhattan, New York
ELC Student
Coordinator for Special Projects
Leadership Center and Principals Institute
Bank Street College

Before Fielding, I was always told what assignments to do. This doctoral program is totally opposite. ELC allows a wide range of freedom in research. The confidence I have today comes from using my own Navajo culture, history, and language in my studies.
Terri Chee
Cortez, Colorado
ELC Student

The ELC program is novel in its approach to doctoral studies because it challenges students and faculty alike to think outside the traditional higher education "box." Fielding's diversity standards are laudable and make the goal of academic excellence more easily attainable by all.
Charlease T. Stevenson, PhD
Savannah, Georgia
ELC Faculty

ELC sees diversity as inclusiveness, and it goes way beyond the obvious--race, gender, ethnicity--to difference in approach, in attitude, in point of view. ELC feels both a debt and a responsibility to see that these different points of view are expressed and woven into the fabric that should bind and unite us all.
Nicola Smith, JD
Oakland, California
ELC Faculty

At ELC we are all still learning and co-creating new knowledge that will inform today's diverse world--bridging historical barriers and creating space for change and leadership.
Gloria Willingham
Santa Barbara, California
ELC Associate Dean
