The curriculum is cutting edge and the
staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and caring. There is no question
that my advancement to Superintendent of District Operations for Milpitas
Unified School District is directly linked to hard work, perseverance,
and my EdD degree.

Fielding encouraged me to use traditional
and cultural values in my research. For my dissertation, my argument
was for a relevant curriculum that encourages hands-on learning activities
in the Navajo Nation.

Fielding has played a central role
in supporting my commitment to social justice. I was able to work
with Fielding students and faculty from all over the world. The process
of intellectual cross-pollenization was rich and rewarding.

In a just society, our values must
not be slogans but the foundation for everything we believe in. For
my dissertation, I am using action research to bring about change
at both the school and college level.

Before Fielding, I was always told
what assignments to do. This doctoral program is totally opposite.
ELC allows a wide range of freedom in research. The confidence I have
today comes from using my own Navajo culture, history, and language
in my studies.

The ELC program is novel in its
approach to doctoral studies because it challenges students and faculty
alike to think outside the traditional higher education "box."
Fielding's diversity standards are laudable and make the goal of academic
excellence more easily attainable by all.

ELC sees diversity as inclusiveness,
and it goes way beyond the obvious--race, gender, ethnicity--to difference
in approach, in attitude, in point of view. ELC feels both a debt
and a responsibility to see that these different points of view are
expressed and woven into the fabric that should bind and unite us
all.

At ELC we are all still learning and co-creating
new knowledge that will inform today's diverse world--bridging historical
barriers and creating space for change and leadership.
