Marlon Hall, ELC student, participated at the Thomas Lakin Institute for Mentored Leadership, a prestigious American Association of Community College Trustees program for professional development. The program is specifically designed for African American leaders in education whose very next position would be that of president or the most senior in the institution. Congratulations to Dr. Franzi Karlen-Ng from British Columbia, CA for winning the Outstanding Research Award for the Wholistic Education Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association for 2001! She received the award in Seattle at AERA International Conference. The research for which she received the award was her dissertation.

Congratulations Danny Jacques, Ignacio, Colorado, on becoming a Gates Millennium Scholar! The Gates Millennium Scholars initiative, funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and administered by the United Negro College Fund and partners, is aimed at expanding access and opportunity to higher education to those citizens who will help reflect the diverse society in which we live. The Foundation seeks to increase the number of African Americans, American Indians/Alaska Natives, Asian Pacific Americans, and Hispanic Americans enrolling and completing undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
