Greetings
Fielding Alumni!

Alumni

Nature
has been wreaking havoc around the world these past few months. I
hope that the floods, fires, mudslides, and explosions that have made
headline news have not placed you in harm’s way. The schools
of Psychology (PSY) and Human & Organization Development (HOD)
held their first summer session at the Westin Crown Center in Kansas
City, Missouri, and it was a great success. The proximity to a shopping
mall, restaurants, and local transportation delighted all who attended
the sessions. We will return to Kansas City for the next two years,
and we plan to include samplings of the city’s famed barbequed
ribs and jazz clubs in our FAN gatherings. A number of HOD alumni
working in higher education accepted the invitation to attend the
Educational Leadership & Change (ELC) National Session 2007 and
found the experience uplifting and insightful. Connie Shafran (PSY
95), a member of the Board of Trustees, enjoyed getting to know the
ELC community better when she joined us for the 30th Anniversary Campaign
Celebration in Tucson. National Session 2008 will be held in
Atlanta, Georgia.
Remember
that all alumni are welcome to attend Fielding’s Alumni
Network gatherings and special events at any of the sessions,
even if you did not graduate from the hosting school. I hope
to see you in Santa Barbara, Kansas City or Atlanta next year!
Warm regards,
Dilys Jones

Remembering
Anne Alonso (PSY 80)
By
Anne Kratz, CFRE, Chief Development Officer
Beloved Fielding Graduate University alumna, former board trustee,
and faculty emerita, Anne Alonso, PhD, has passed away. Anne
was considered by her peers to be a master teacher, trainer, clinician,
and a prominent researcher and author. Anne was a consummate professional
and an iconic figure in the fields of group psychotherapy and clinical
psychology training.
Anne graduated from Fielding’s School of Clinical Psychology
in 1980 and went on to become a faculty member in that school from
1983 through 2001. For many years Anne also held a post as clinical
professor of psychology in the department of outpatient psychiatry
at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
Anne’s
legacy to Fielding is the founding of the Alonso Center for
Psychodynamic Studies. This past January in Santa Barbara,
the Alonso Center sponsored an event for friends and supporters.
Anne presented a thoughtful presentation on the psychology
of aggression in everyday life.
Our sympathy goes out to her husband Ramon, her daughters, grandchildren,
and the Fielding community who will miss her. If you wish
to write to Anne’s family, you may send an email to AnneAlonsoMemorial@comcast.net.
This special account has been set up to receive messages from
all whose life Anne touched. The memorial service for Anne will
be held on Saturday, September 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Harvard
Memorial Church in Harvard Yard.

FELIX and
the Fielding Forums
This is not the title of a mystery novel, but a quick summary on how
to navigate this puzzling process. Many of you are unfamiliar with
the abundance of information and resources now available to you via
the FELIX forums and the Alumni Relations home pages. Do you know
that career opportunities are regularly
posted in the forums? Do you know how to update your contact
information and personal profile so that friends and
colleagues can reach you? Bridging these gaps in this “Knowledge
Area” will help you become better informed and engaged with
the Fielding community. As alumni, you still have access to your schools’
forums and here are a few more opportunities available to you through
FELIX.
• Alumni Forum keeps you in touch with your peers;
• Fielding Community-Wide Forum connects the entire
Fielding community;
• Community College/Higher Education is for those working
in that field;
• Scholarly Swap Meet is where you can buy, sell, and
exchange educational materials;
• Career Opportunities are regularly posted on a number
of sites within the forums;
• Frequently Asked Questions provides in-depth explanations
on how to utilize FELIX.
Remember to point your curser on the FELIX Summit tab, in
order to view all your options. You will need a FELIX
account to gain access. If your account is no longer active,
send an email to helpdesk@fielding.edu;
an account will be set up, and the information emailed to you. To
learn how to update your email address on your FELIX
Business Card/Profile, or change your email, addresses, and phone
information via WebAdvisor, go to the FAQs
on the Alumni Network home page.

Candido
Trujillo (HOD 97),
Director, Organization Management and Development Master’s Program
According to Candi, his early career in the
armed forces enabled him to appreciate the complexity and impact of
knowledge sharing and the inestimable value of developing real working
relationships. He entered the field of systems management learning
to understand the subtleties, strengths, and weaknesses of interdependent
human, social, and technical systems. His management experience was
further developed and honed while working as an administrator at a
teaching hospital. Candi also became a licensed medical health counselor
in the state of Washington, specializing in human development, stress
management, and personal and professional development coaching.
This combination of skills and experience led him to enroll in Fielding’s
Human & Organization Development (HOD) program, receiving his
PhD in human development in 1997. “I like to think that I am
a living example of a Fielding graduate” he says. “The
relationships I developed when I started at Fielding, personal and
professional, continue to grow in meaningful ways, and the vast majority
of my consulting business is through referrals and connections from
my Fielding network of students, alumni, and faculty.”
Soon
after graduation, Candi joined Fielding’s Organization
Design Effectiveness (ODE) faculty, facilitating student groups,
teaching courses in group process, coaching, and developing
the first online student orientation process. He was a significant
contributor on the team that developed the curriculum for the
current Organization Management and Development (OMD) program,
and in October 2006 Candi accepted the position of director
of the OMD master’s program. Determined to apply what
he has learned through experience and his Fielding graduate
program, he plans to lead by example. Ideally, he would like
to see all the graduates make real, socially beneficial changes
in their organizations by understanding and managing the dynamics
created by human interaction. Most importantly he hopes they’ll
look beyond their current horizons and embrace that which is
novel in organizational practices and technology.

Consider
Participating in Research Sessions
We constantly seek ways to include alumni in ongoing, educational
programming. It’s been suggested that HOD’s Research and
Practice (RaP) Session, ELC’s Regional Research Intensive (RRI),
and PSY’s Psychology Research Session and Psychological Assessment
Laboratories (PALs) might present possibilities for workshops, seminars,
and other activities. The Office of Alumni Relations and the associate
deans of the three schools are discussing ways to develop opportunities
for alumni and students to network, collaborate and share valuable
learning experiences. If you want to participate, please describe
your interest in an email note and send it to alumnirelations@fielding.edu.
Request for SS08 Workshop
Proposals
We are now accepting workshop proposals for HOD/PSY Summer Session
2008. Please
complete and submit this form by Monday, December 3, 2007.

Special gratitude goes to Alumni Division Campaign
Chair Dan Distelhorst, who gave so willingly of his time and energy
to help us achieve this wonderful result. His involvement has been
