Letter from Anne Kratz, Chief Development Officer

I always look forward with great anticipation to face-to-face alumni events to enjoy the warm comradeship, work on good ideas for how Fielding can improve service and relevance for our alumni, and to welcome the new graduates to the alumni ranks. The activity throughout the '06 winter sessions and graduation ceremonies did not disappoint.

The search for a new director of alumni relations has narrowed to a few impressive candidates. Expect to meet the new director at summer session events - perhaps prior to then.

I am delighted to report on the status and success of the 30th Anniversary Campaign. With a year-and-a-half until the close of the campaign in June 2007, we have reached our $3-million mark and have the opportunity to exceed our overall monetary goal. Thanks to so many of you who have generously contributed thus far.

However, there remains much work to do to bolster our underfunded endowment and scholarship funds, so important to insuring the future of our great university.

As you read this FANmail, please remember that your voice is important to help us provide the best possible alumni services and programs. To that end, we urge you to respond to two surveys: one on the strategic plan, and another on planning for an all-alumni event

Warm Wishes,
Anne

Strategic Planning Message to Alumni

From Thelma A. Jackson, EdD (ELC 02)
Alumni Council Representative & Chair, Strategic Planning Steering Committee

Dear Alumni,

Your university has embarked upon a new strategic planning process that will define its direction for the next three years. The process is proceeding under a premise of openness and constituent group involvement. I am privileged to be your alumni representative as well as chairing the work of the Strategic Planning Steering Committee.

Alumni comprise an important constituent group at Fielding, and we want to ensure that graduate input and feedback are part of the process. An initial draft of the strategic plan is available for your comment. Members of the Alumni Council have provided input and feedback, but we need to hear from you in order to provide good representation as this process moves forward. The draft document is posted on FELIX on the Alumni Forum. Please access this document and provide feedback to me on the form provided. If you do not have access to FELIX, feel free to email me at thelmajackson@comcast.netand I will see that it is sent to you. Subsequent drafts will be developed over the next few months and additional input will be sought. A draft plan will be presented to the Board of Trustees
at their May meeting for feedback and input, and the final plan presented for consideration at the October Board meeting.

Your Alumni Council wants to ensure that graduates of the university are included in thefuture of Fielding in significant ways. We are working very hard to remain a vital part of the Fielding community after graduation and want to ensure that the strategic plan reflects our role in helping Fielding to fulfill its mission, vision, and future directions. Thank you for taking the time to respond and be involved.

Best regards,

Thelma

From Your Alumni Council

ALL-ALUMNI EVENT

Dear Fellow Alumni:

Under discussion by the Alumni Council is the concept of instituting a cross-university, multidisciplinary conference for all alumni. We are starting by seeking your help and opinion to find out three things:

1. Is this a good idea?
2. If yes, how should it be designed?
3. What would it take for you to attend?

Please read this overview of our thinking and give us your responses to the questions at the end of the document. THANKS!

Please send your responses to Violet Hatipoglu, Development Associate, at vhatipoglu@fielding.edu.

Professional Engagement Opportunities for Alumni

A number of Fielding alumni and students are developing, administering, or teaching in the university's non-degree-granting programs. Alumni are encouraged to bring forth ideas for programs in fields for which there is a need for academic credit offerings or for an accredited research partner. Proposals for new ventures should be directed to the attention of the appropriate school dean.

Examples of recent successes include:

  • A three-course certificate in Evidence Based Coaching (HOD)
  • A sixteen-week certificate program in Dialogue, Deliberation, and Public Engagement (HOD)
  • An HOD doctoral student working with an OD consulting business created an OD staff development program for one of her healthcare consulting clients
  • Two HOD alumni lead an ELC certificate program in Teaching in the Virtual Classroom.
