Is distance & distributed learning right for you?

The scope and substance of Distributed Learning has been defined in a comprehensive new text. Fielding Graduate University wrote the book on it—literally! The Encyclopedia of Distributed Learning is available through Amazon.com. In the meantime, below is a brief overview of the subject:

Distributed Learning is an approach that does not require a specific, physical location in order to facilitate learning.
Some of the characteristics of a distributed environment include:

  • The incorporation of technology, in-person, distance-oriented and other interactive tools to support various learning styles.
  • An integration of day-to-day life (work and non-work related) into the learning activities.
  • An emphasis on collaborative learning by peer and community interaction.

To begin assessing whether distance & distributed learning might be right for you, ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you wish to pursue your PhD , EdD , Master's or a certificate without moving from your home?
  • Is continuing your career while you earn your degree or certificate important to you?
  • Are you a self-directed learner?
  • Do you appreciate choice and flexibility in a learning environment?
  • Are you comfortable with—and interested in—collaborating with others via on-line and off-line technologies?

As a student at Fielding Graduate University, our programs allow for you to continue your career and, more importantly, your life.
