She has devoted her professional life to advancing the field of professional psychology and to expanding the body of knowledge in her areas of expertise: group theory and therapy, gender development, and supervision of psychotherapy. A past president of the American Group Psychotherapy Association, Dr. Alonso's recent awards include Group Psychologist of the Year from the American Psychological Association (1999) and the prestigious Clifford Barger Award for Excellence in Mentoring from the Harvard Medical School (2000). Anne Alonso's dedication to the art and science
of listening to patients is a bright and shining beacon to those of us
who have embraced the importance of quality mental health care. Her concern
that future generations will have someone to talk to when emotional distress
threatens is critically important to helping people lead healthier, happier
and more fulfilling loves."
